{ a friday quote }

Friday, December 9th, 2011

I’ve learned that no matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow.
I’ve learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he/she handles these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights.
I’ve learned that [...]

{ decorating for christmas }

Monday, November 28th, 2011

On Saturday while Funnel was at work, I put all of our Christmas decorations up and assembled our artificial Christmas tree. Last night we decorated it together, while drinking mugs of hot chocolate and listening to the Indie Christmas station I found on Pandora (Pedro the Lion, Sufjan Stevens, Camera Obscura.. it’s the best!)
While we [...]

{ 27 }

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

As far as birthdays go, this one was great -flowers, balloons, cake, cookies, cards, hugs, well-wishes: I felt very loved. (which is the very best birthday gift.)

I was thinking today about twenty-seven – what I want out of it and what it might hold for me.  It made me really excited.  Because even though life can be [...]

{ early birthday celebration }

Sunday, March 20th, 2011

My parents (and Pete & Gracie – the most awesome dogs in Ohio) came for a weekend visit to celebrate my birthday (March 29th) and my dad’s birthday (March 25th).  We had a fun weekend… we ate good food, watched “Secretariat”,  went on some walks around the neighborhood, did a little bit of shopping, exchanged gifts, [...]

{ meeting the pioneer woman }

Saturday, February 19th, 2011

Today, my friend Lesley, Harlow (Lesley’s cute-as-a-button 9-month old daughter) and I went to The Pioneer Woman’s Columbus, Ohio stop on her book-signing tour.
(If you don’t know who Ree Drummond, aka The Pioneer Woman is, she’s arguably the most popular blogger in the world, her cookbook is  a #1 New York Times Bestseller, and a [...]

{a quiet weekend }

Sunday, February 13th, 2011

I’m really thankful to have had a quiet weekend.
Funnel & I had a great dinner out at PF Changs.
I did some spring cleaning and organized some things that badly needed organized, while listening to some old “Travel with Rick Steves” podcasts.
I baked a couple loaves of bread.
I went grocery shopping.
I [...]

{ crème brulee }

Sunday, February 6th, 2011

This creme brulee is so yummy.  The version I tried uses orange zest – which gives a really unexpected but wonderful flavor.  And with anything Julia Child, I don’t think you can go wrong!
Also, I’ve never tried making creme brulee at home because I don’t own a kitchen torch.  Well, in this version, you simply [...]

{ rag curls }

Saturday, January 29th, 2011

I’ve been in a curly-hair mood lately and  it occurred to me that waking up an hour early to curl my hair was kind of ridiculous, so I decided to try rag curls!  Yes, like they used to do in the “olden days”!   I just cut up some scrap fabric and rolled my hair up in [...]
