{ 2013 goals }

It’s January 5th. What a whirlwind life’s been with Christmas and family and homestudy preparations. I’m thankful for a quiet Saturday alone to simply get caught up on housework and then (hopefully!) reward myself with an evening of sewing, reading and watching an episode of Season 7 of “Avonlea.”
I have a feeling the next couple of months are going to be busy with our homestudy and adoption preparations, so it’s good that I made my 2013 goal to simplify my life and stay off Facebook/Pinterest/blogs as much as possible. Facebook, especially, is one of those things that is a complete time-sucker and doesn’t ever really leave me feeling good. It’s dawned on me lately how much time I waste on the internet and that if I really ask myself – I would much rather spend an hour sewing rather than an hour pinning things on Pinterest that I would like to sew. I would rather have coffee with a friend and really catch up with each other instead of us both having less to share because we’ve already read all about it on Facebook. I’m looking forward to a social-media detox and a less-plugged-in life.
Over the summer, I spent a few months committed to keeping a thankfulness notebook. It was just a list of little things that I was thankful for – a hot shower on a cold day, a pretty new dress, fresh pineapple, an encouraging e-mail from a friend. I found my notebook the other day, and I want to starting writing in it again – just a few things each night. I have so much to be thankful for and it’s easier to be joyful when you stop and appreciate the small things in life that may otherwise go unnoticed.
If any of you have made goals for 2013, I would love to hear them.
Have a beautiful weekend friends!
