{ monkey neighbors }

Funnel & I have discovered that three of our future neighbors are monkeys.  Literally.

Last time we visited the house, we heard these strange “whooping” noises coming from across the street.  We concluded that our neighbors had pet birds.

Today, when we went to look at the house with my parents, we heard the noises again,  much louder and much more frantic, and we discovered that there are monkeys living at the house behind the house that is right across the street from us!

We counted at least 3 very large primates swinging and running around their cage, which was large and suprisingly like one you would see at a zoo.

And the sounds.  They were like nothing I have ever heard. We went for a walk around the neighborhood and we could hear them two streets over!

I am against domesticating exotic animals, especially after the horrific chimapnzee mauling that happened recently, leaving a woman in a coma at The Cleveland Clinc with her face and hands gone.  But I will admit that I am intrigued by these neighbors… the primates and the humans that own them.

We have a view of their cage from a certain spot in our yard.  I think this will be interesting.

    Sounds like lemurs… but if they were bigger, they might be gibbons. Used to love seeing those things at the zoo… never thought I’d hear of them being pets, though.

    ummm…or it could suck a lot. like if they decide to stop sleeping at night and make noises. or if they wake up every morning at 6am. wow i hope that doesn’t suck for you.

    We’re pretty sure that the only time we will hear them is if we are outside… Funnel visited the house once with his dad while they were making their crazy noises and they couldn’t hear them when they were in the house. It would be super annoying if they kept us awake.

    I’m interested to know if they legally obtained those monkeys? Ha! Are they “alien” monkeys… like maybe their owners snuck them into the US! Keep us updated on what you hear.

    We heard a story one time about this crazy lady who snuck a little “dog” here from Mexico. She thought it was cute, but it was sick and she wanted to take care of it. She later found out that it was some kind of rat with rabies!!! Madness… anyway, I wonder where they purchased, and/or took their primates from? :) hehe

    K… so I have this CRAZY story about your monkey neighbors! Check this out… I told my mom to look here on your site to see the photos of John & I, and in the process of looking she also saw your monkey story. SO, she laughs and shows my dad the aerial shot that you posted,and he was like “Um… that looks exactly like my friend’s monkey pen!” (he had a friend who worked at Airnet with him who at one point owned EIGHT monkeys!). So, anyway my dad said that if your new neighborhood is located East of the airport area, then it’s totally possible that the monkeys belong to his friends! AH! How crazy and funny would that be!? I’ll e-mail you their names and maybe you can see if they truly are the people who live there. HA!
