{ st. patrick, a camera, an earthship }

So yesterday, a wonderous suprise arrived at my doorstep, helped along it’s way by faeries and leprachauns, no doubt…. my new camera!  What a perfect present for St. Patrick’s Day!

Funnel called me to let me know it had come, and that he was unpacking it.  It made for a long afternoon at work.  I came home, shot a bunch of photos of random things in our kitchen, and then hopped in the shower.  When I came out of the bathroom, the second suprise of the day awaited me… our friend Jason Rainey.  (by the way, Jason Rainey has one of those names.. where you can’t say the first name without saying the last name.  He’s always “Jason Rainey”)  Jason wanted to take Funnel and I on a suprise adventure.  No details were disclosed, other than it would be a great opportunity for Funnel and I try out our new camera.

First we stopped at UDF for gas & beverages.

Then, we drove around, and ended up at Jason’s friend’s old farmhouse, where we parked our car, and walked back to an almost-completed earthship!  If you don’t know what an earthship is, it’s a house made partly from recycled materials (like tires and bottles), and is usually self-sustaining.  Funnel & I hope to build an earth-sheltered home one day, which is kind of in the same family as an earthship.  I thought it was pretty cool.

Afterwards, we went to McDonald’s for a Shamrock shake, but they were sold-out.  Lame.

I’m probably going to be taking tons of photos the next few weeks to get myself aquainted with all the features and controls.  Any requests?  Want to see the inside of my closet?  a sunset?  a self-portrait? ((I love assignments.. I think that’s why I always loved school.))

    How exciting! I love looking a pictures of things that are ordinary to the photographer, but really give some one else a glance at their life. I’m thinking of things like your apartment, what you ate for breakfast, something you saw on the way to work, etc. I can’t wait to see the pics!

    Hmm… I have an assignment… maybe we can work on it together when I visit in April? I’ll email you about it. I need someone who knows what they are doing… because though I usually luck out in my pictures, I don’t always.

    The donuts look delicious… probably because of your new camera and it’s “skills”

    Wow! That earthship is really cool! I’ve never seen anything like it.

    I have a few of your dandelion photos, and I just put one of them as my desktop background last night, in honor of spring. (Happy first day of spring, btw!) My only complaint was that the dimensions of the photo were small, so when I stretched it out to be my background, it grew as fuzzy as a dandelion seed.

    I’d love to see more dandelion photos.

    1. Close ups of budding spring plants

    2. Indoor comparison shots with and without flash
