{march.}

Today is March 1st, meaning I will turn twenty-five in twenty-nine days.  My cousin Carmen told me on Wednesday that twenty-five was her favorite year.  I hope it is mine too.  But I am a little sad that it will mean that from then on, I will be closer to thirty than to twenty.

Funnel is at work, so I’ve been having a quiet Sunday at home.  So far today, I’ve grocery shopped at Wal-Mart, organized our kitchen, made Alton Brown’s chewy chocolate chunk cookies, made a big batch of pasta salad to pack in our lunches this week, and I have a three-packet pot roast going in the crock pot for dinner tonight.  You use a packet of ranch dressing powder, a packet of italian dressing powder, and a packet of gravy seasoning.  It smells so good.. I can’t wait to see how it turned out.  This week, I have planned crock-pot dinners for every night.  They seem to be cheaper, and they’re so much simpler.  I don’t know why I don’t use my crockpot more often.

I don’t think I’ve blogged about this yet, but Funnel and I are hoping to buy a house this year.  The timing seems right: there’s an $8,000 tax credit for first-time home buyers, we’ve worked hard and sacrificed a lot of “wants” in order to save as much as possible, and there are so many foreclosed homes in our price range. We’ve spent a lot of time lately on the internet looking at houses and driving around to check out the ones we like.  We’ll probably get a fixer-upper and I think it will be really fun and meaningful to work together on making a house “our own.”  Funnel is really handy (he helped his dad build their house) and I think I could handle a lot of the cosmetic changes – painting and curtains and stuff like that.

I’ve made a file on my computer with “house inspiration” and here is a collage I made of some things I like.

I’ve really supressed my inner-decorator while we’ve lived in our apartment.  Our apartment is a hodgepodge of colors and styles and hand-me-downs because we didn’t want to spend money on curtains and pillows and furniture until we were somewhere permanent.  So the Marthat Stewart inside me is anxious to paint walls and buy Amy Butler fabric to make pillows and curtains with.  Hopefully a house is in our near future!  I will keep you updated as we get started in the process.

    That’s really exciting!! I’m excited for you! It will be a really fantastic adventure together. And it will be yours. No more renting. If you want to paint the walls coral, butter-cream and sea-foam- so be it! Black even! Though I wouldn’t recommend that…

    We did the same thing! We pinched pennies, saved and bought a foreclosure. The house needs some work, but it’s so fulfilling to do it yourself and see the progess made. We retiled out bathroom this weekend, pics to come on my blog!

    I love my crock-pot! Its SO easy and yummy! And I do the same thing when Brent works weekends, lots of make-ahead cooking/baking and cleaning. I love getting all that stuff out of the way so the time we have together we can enjoy.

    I’m so looking forward to crock-pot cooking. Ryan and I are trying for a house (and marriage) in the next year as well. It’s scary, but exciting. We have very similar taste in decorating as well! Also, I loved the Ghandi quote you left on my blog– I will carry that with my always.
