happy valentine’s day.

((Funnel, at Rising Park in May 2005. One of my favorite photos.))
Right now my Valentine is sleeping in the other room.
I was just remembering our first Valentine’s Day together, in 2005, when we had been dating a little shy of 4 months. We went to P.F. Chang’s for dinner, and Funnel bought me a bouquet of pink tulips and gave me a hand-written list of 100 reasons why he loved me. That is one of the best gifts I’ve ever recieved.
I adore Valentine’s Day, but even I’ll admit that it’s a pretty cheesy holiday. I do think that sometimes cheesy holidays are needed from time to time to remind us to do something special for the people we love, and to remind us of look back on our love story and remember what things brought us together in the first place.
Funnel and I have been together a pretty long time now (it will be 5 years this October), and I love that we are in such a comfortable spot with each other. I love that we know each other so well now… it feels like we are the oldest of friends.
I know a lot of women would tell you that their husband or boyfriend is the best in the world, but I know that mine holds that title, and no one can ever convince me otherwise. I love my forever Valentine so much.

I love you, not only for what you are, but for what I am when I am with you. I love you, not only for what you have made of yourself, but for what you are making of me. I love you, for the part of me that you bring out. I love you, for putting your hand into my heaped-up heart, and passing over all the foolish, weak things that you can’t help dimly seeing there, and for drawing out, into the light, all the beautiful belongings that no one else had looked quite far enough to find. I love you, because you are helping me to make of the lumber of my life, not a tavern, but a temple. Out of the works of my every day, not a reproach, but a song. I love you, because you have done more than any creed could have done to make me good, and more than any fate could have done to make me happy. You have done it without a touch, without a word, without a sign. You have done it by being yourself. Perhaps that is what being a friend means, after all.

I also gave my (former) boyfriend a list of 100 reasons why I loved him. I hope he felt like you did—that it was the best gift he could receive. However, I did not handwrite mine. I typed them on the computer. So Funnel definitely wins the prize.
I want to take kissing pictures atop a scenic overlook!! I want to soooooo bad! I just love the photos of you and Funnel up there (in other posts).

I’ve been giving Ryan a reason why I love him for the past 90 days… and I will continue until I get to 100. It’s a great feeling
That is a lovely photograph.

We are going to have this poem read at our wedding. It is my absolute favorite and just so perfectly describes the true depths and joy of true love. How lucky we are to have found it and to get to keep it forever!
