even artichokes have hearts.

The last couple weeks, I have been consumed with far-away places.  I find myself daydreaming about Europe, googling airfare and spending way too much time on flickr looking at beautiful photos of beautiful cities

I was in the mood for Paris last night, so we watched Amelie.  I know Amelie’s whimsical, saturated Paris is different from real Paris, but I don’t mind.

If you haven’t seen Amelie, when the characters are introduced, we are told what their simple pleasures are in life (cracking the crust of a creme brulee with the back of a tea spoon, peeling large strips of wallpaper, figure skaters’ costumes) and their dislikes (clingy, wet swim trunks, puckered fingers in the bath, old movies with drivers who pay no attention to the road).

I have been thinking of mine..

Simple pleasures:
- the smell of chlorine on my skin after I’ve been swimming
- watching a photograph slowly develop in the darkroom
- licking the spoon after making chocolate chip cookies
- viewing the movie trailers of my favorite movies

Dislikes:
- pantyhose digging into my middle
- using public restrooms for #2
- soggy french fries
- pumping gas in the wintertime

I have bought a lot of fabric for my quilt and begun cutting patches.  I tried to pick vintage prints.

I decided I liked orange and light blue better than orange and teal.

Europe isn’t as far off as it feels.

Ummm…I have to know…did you seriously draw that post-it note yourself? Did you seriously do that all by hand? Please tell me you’re joking. That looks insanely professional and impossible.

I totally agree about the public bathrooms! That’s why, for four years of college, I just held it in.

I really liked Amelie. It was so fun and charming! And I love those fabrics for your quilt… they’re adorable.

I didn’t draw it! It is a collage made from 4 post-it notes that I printed on. I was making different designs using symbols… like the background is “X”s that I printed in a few different directions.
