Mittwochmorgen (wednesday morning).

A timid child, I obeyed my parents’ rule not to enter the woods that bordered on our property, but sometimes I stood at the edge and looked in.

One evening I walked about ten feet into the woods and stopped. I saw the fading sun filtered though the overgrowth, striking the ground in shafts of light that dappled the tree trunks, and the wild ferns and white violets on the forest floor. I was alarmed, knowing I would have to remember the scene perfectly, as it was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. But I knew I couldn’t describe it in words. In the end I decided to write down the date and time on a card and put it in one of my desk drawers. I also wrote the words  Light. Trees.

The card is long since lost, but I remember the approximate date (early June 1982) and I remember what the card looked like. From this memory I can recall the scene in the woods vividly.

I miss Cape May.  We had a wonderful time and I wish we were back there now. When I get some free time, I will post some of our photos and stories, but in the meantime here is one of the sunsets we watched (taken by my funnel).

I miss Cape May.  We had a wonderful time and I wish we were back there now. When I get some free time, I will post some of our photos and stories, but in the meantime here is one of the sunsets we watched (taken by my funnel). This week feels like the opposite of last week.  I’m trying to find auto insurance, learn how to play Halo 3, catch up on emails, do laundry, etc.  It is good to be home though.  No matter how fun of a time I have on trips, it always feels nice to be home.

I have a new car! (new to me).  It is a 2005 Ford Focus and it’s orange.  Funnel and James drove to Dayton on Monday to pick it up for me and now it’s in our parking lot.  I still need to get it insured, but I am excited to drive it.  It looks like a little “pod.”  I need to name it.  And we are going to sell Waltima soon.

I have been working on a big project since springtime.  I am making a book using blurb (the best book-making company I have found so far).  It is probably the biggest and most important project I have ever done and it’s taking a really long time.  Scanning letters & cd booklets, trying to write a meaningful story.  It all came to a halt a few weeks ago, when the latest version of the software crashed.  A new version is supposed to be out anytime now, and then I can continue working on it, but I wanted to have it done by the end of the October.  I’m really impatient.

Looking ahead, October is five days away and October is my favorite month.  My best friend from when I was little is getting married a week before our anniversary.  I remember last year at our wedding she told me that she had met someone and now they are getting married.  I am really excited for her.

Also, The Office starts this week!

I will answer your question with a question: It’s like what happens to a chicken when you take its head away. It dies. Unless you find a new head. I need to see which one of these people has the skills to be a chicken head.

    TOMORROW!!!

P.S. At Target I found some cute office supplies that actually say /The Office/ and have pictures and quotes from the show. I bought some pencils, some quote pens (where every time you click it shows a different quote), a pad of post-it notes, and a “to-do” list pad with Jim’s face on it and “I Heart Jim” all around the border. They’re only a dollar each, so you should go get some! (I went to the Easton Target.) I’m going to hand them out to my fellow /Office/ fans tomorrow at the premiere!

P.P.S. They were right at the front of the store, in that section where they sell a whole bunch of random stuff for a dollar. I know there are things like plates and mugs near there too.

I’ll get you the “recipe” later. I need to think about it, because I made it up as I went.
You’ll need to let me know more about blurb and your book. I looked at their website and was really blown away. I’d love to make a cook book filled with my families recipes.

Sarah – Thanks for letting me know.. I am going there tommorow! Those sound amazing. I love the Target dolla section!

Katie – that would be awesome. I love jalapenos. I will let you know about the book. I might post a review of something whenever I finish it. So far, I like what I’ve seen from them. I think a recipe book is a really good idea!
