a good day to be a duck.
I saw three of my favorite little creatures today.
In August, when I first started working here, I met three ducks. I would see them nearly every day on my way to the cafeteria for lunch. The special thing about these ducks is that they are all different- one is pure white, one is black, and the other is your standard brown duck. I’ve never seen one without the other two.
I had forgotten about those ducks until today. I asked an older man who has worked here a long time about them and he told me there used to be forty ducks, but the foxes got them. These three are all that’s left. What troopers. What little soldiers! They all walk in perfect unison, too. Always.
He showed me a little home he had built for them, along a creek that runs through our property.
I think I will start bringing bread for them. I want to be friends.

Hey Barb!
I did get those messages! Sometimes the comments on here don’t show up right away because I have to approve them first (because I get a lot of spam and weird people commenting). They should be up there now.
I sent you an email yesterday. Did you get it? Let me know!
Talk to you soon!
Love,
Jen (your cousin in Ohio)

aww, ducks. We have this book at the library about a white mom bunny and a brown dad bunny and a splotchy brown and white baby bunny that’s up for a Caldecott. I’m glad animals are diverse like people.

I love children’s books. They are so sweet. I am trying to write one about Spanky the miniature elephant.
